3D/2N in Langkawi!
3D/2N in Langkawi
We all need a getaway from the hustle of the city sometimes; be it either locally in Malaysia or overseas, the lush greens and clear blue skies of an island getaway is definitely an occasional indulgence that one can always turn to.
Let's get into the details!
Day 1: Departure, Arrival, & SkyBridge Langkawi
Departed from Subang at 6:30AM in a group of 4; we had decided before hand that we'd drive to the jetty in Kedah and then head there by a ferry. Had a quick stop in Ipoh to have breakfast - which was nothing worth mentioning as we didn't go for any of the famous joints. As soon as you arrive at the jetty, you'll see plenty of people offering you their parking lot but the one you want is actually right next to the jetty in Kuala Kedah. It's the one right next to the roadside stall; the lady only charges RM10 per day as opposed to her competitors which apparently charges up to RM20 per day. (Note: Charges may vary during peak season)
The ferry ride we took was the Langkawi Ferry Line. You may buy the tickets online, but the ferries usually do not sell out anyway. Tickets per trip costs about RM23 per adult and RM17 per child. Infants below age 3 ride complimentary but no seat will be provided. The ferry took a gruelling 1 hour and 45 minutes, so you can expect some discomfort as seats are really close to each other. I'm super thankful for the fact that there's more leg space on a ferry than that of a Boeing - otherwise I'd probably be cranky af.
It would be best if you could arrange for a car rental before getting there; it would save you a lot of trouble looking for the right one on the day itself. We rented a local made compact Perodua Axia for RM60 a day - super fuel efficient. We only spent RM30 on petrol for the entire trip; this included frequent trips from Kuah to Cenang Beach and a day trip to SkyBridge. Pretty good value, no?
- Basic Package includes: Gondola ride up to the SkyBridge + Entrance to SkyDome, SkyRex, & 3D Art Langkawi
1) Malaysian Adults RM40, Non-Malaysians Adults RM55.
2) Malaysian Kids below 12 years of age is RM30, while Non-Malaysian Kids are RM40.
* One can beat the queue for an additional RM50 add on for Express Lane.
Here's the thing - the Gondola doesn't take you to the SkyBridge per se, it actually stops you at 10 minutes walk away from it. Giving you either an option to walk down and up flights of stairs to get there or to take the SkyGlide. My advice? Unless you're travelling with elderly or people with back problems, skip the SkyGlide! Not only does it cost you RM10 per adult, you'd have to wait at least 40 minutes for your turn.
Here's why - bad management from the employees who work only for the sake of earning money. They do not manage the number of passengers efficiently, if you're next in line in a group of 4 while the SkyGlide currently has 8 passengers, and the SkyGlide can only take a maximum of 11 passengers - they will not skip your turn and look for the next party of 2 or 3 in line. But rather, they'd close the SkyGlide and depart with 8 passengers instead of the maximum limit of 11. Genius much?
The wait took so long that we didn't have enough time to visit the SkyDome, SkyRex, and 3D Art Langkawi because we needed to check into our AirBnB - although our hosts were kind enough to let us check in anytime that day, but we figured it wasn't nice to keep them waiting all night. Hence, despite the hunger, we proceeded to our Villa first to check in.
We stayed in Villa Impiana and I would not think twice when recommending this to anyone going to Langkawi - the service was impeccable and the kindness of the hosts knew no limits. You can find this villa easily on AirBnB as well as on google maps, etc - and it's only an 8 minutes drive or so the Cenang Beach; where all the eateries are! Home made breakfast is provided throughout the duration of your stay at Villa Impiana!
Dinner, yay! Or that's what one would normally think. We had dinner at Yellow Beach Cafe @ Cenang Beach. It was easily the worst dinner I've had, ever. The food was of such low-standard yet the price of their dishes are identical to any decent restaurant in KL, can you fathom that?!
Here's what I had; 100% Pure Beef Burger @ RM42. Here's what S had; Grilled Chicken Breast @ RM33 (don't quite remember the price, but I believe it was RM30+, because a friend of ours ordered the Carbonara pasta and even that was RM32 already)
Here's a picture of the Grilled Chicken Breast;

First off; I think any establishment which can't even deep fry French Fries properly has got some major issues with their chefs and will probably need to rehire some of their chefs. Secondly, in which culinary world is it a standard to serve 4 lettuce leaves cut in halves as a side for a main dish? Not to mention without dressing, and without seasoning?
I didn't take a picture of my burger, but let's just say it too was a major disappointment if not the worst decision to include on their menu. AND at the price of RM42. Thinking about it gets my blood boiling!
I'd advise strongly against visiting the restaurant for the food, as it is a waste of your hard-earned money. You may visit the place for drinks though as the atmosphere is really refreshing due to its al-fresco concept by the beach. However, it is important to note what you're ordering for drinks. Their milkshake was horrendously diluted for the price of RM18 - I'd suggest ordering something which isn't hand-made by them. Like, a beer or a canned soda for instance?
Day 2: Island Hopping & Activities!
It seems to be a pretty standard tour in Langkawi, as most who purchase the tour will end up with;
1) Beach at Beras Basah Island
2) Eagle Feeding
3) Fishing
4) Lake of the Pregnant Maiden
5) BBQ Lunch
Beras Basah Island
Pretty standard island stuff here, the water was slightly green-ish, if you've been to Tioman's Coral Reef Island then you may find the water here to be slightly disappointing in terms of its natural beauty. A plus point though, is that the island has a little hut selling food! Things like nuggets, potato chips, Ramly burger (Malaysian style street burgers), and drinks are easily available. All this in spite of the business owners at the Jetty telling you there won't be any food after disembarking the Jetty for your activity till lunch time.
The good thing about having arranged your own tour, is that the tour guide will allow you to spend as much time on the island as you want before heading off to any other activity.
Eagle Feeding

There's little to make of it as all you do is sit in your boat while your 'Captain' throws pieces of raw chicken skin into the sea as you observe the "Eagle Feeding". It really wasn't much - as I had thought it was going to be a lot like you having an eagle resting on your forearm as you feed it.. whatever it is eagles eat.
Here are some pictures. Ladies and gentlemen, you've now experienced "Eagle Feeding" too. This entireordeal activity takes about 20 minutes or less.
Fishing
I'd say the fishing was fun, though they don't really teach you how to do it. Guess there's an excitement to waiting for a fish to bite your bait - until you feel nauseous from being rocked by the waves as you sit in your boat.
There were no big fishes, so you'd mainly be catching small ones to be released back into the ocean. The slightly bigger ones will be brought over to your lunch venue where you're able to enjoy "Today's catch" fresh out the ocean.
S managed to catch a one; and I had almost never seen a happier look on her face. Of course, the only times I've seen a happier look is when I do something for her. <3
Lake of the Pregnant Maiden
Are you able to see the outline of the pregnant maiden in the hills? You'd have to imagine her laying down
There really wasn't much to do here either, it's a 10 minutes walk inside, with monkeys quick to snatch any food you have on you. Once there, you'll arrive at the lake where you can either rent a float or one of those pedal boats.
A little history on the lake; it's said to assist with reproduction and child birth as a princess, whose son died soon after child birth, prayed and wished for any women having difficulty in giving birth to a new offspring so that they may bless with a new being without any medical hindrances with the touch of the water in the lake. Which, was where she buried her son - in the lake itself.
BBQ Lunch
If you've been island hopping in Tioman with any tours, you'll know that the lunch served is usually of sub-standard quality. But such isn't the case of this BBQ Lunch - although it wasn't magnificent per se, but it wasn't too shabby! With some hits and misses, the lunch was definitely the highlight of the tour.
We had dinner at some random seafood restaurant, because the one we wanted to go to was closed. We totally forgot to take pictures or note the name of the restaurant, but - it was edible. I think the only thing one can eat in Langkawi would either be fast food or the local seafood. Although there were lots of eateries vastly available in Cenang Beach, most of them seemed empty - which I think is an obvious sign to keep away from them!
Till next time!
